Argentina

Visa Programs Overview

Rentista (Independent Means) Visa For applicants who can demonstrate stable passive income

Pensionado (Retirement) Visa For applicants with a stable, guaranteed monthly pension, structured similarly to the Rentista Visa but based on retirement income rather than investment or asset income.

Investor Visa For foreign nationals contributing capital to a lawful business engaged in productive, commercial, or service activity within Argentina, with funds placed in a Central Bank-regulated institution.

Argentina Passport & Citizenship Pathway

Argentina currently does not offer a direct "Citizenship by Investment" shortcut — citizenship is obtained through naturalization after a period of continuous legal residence, under Migration Law No. 25.871 and Citizenship Law No. 346. Argentina is well known for one of the shorter naturalization timelines in the Americas for applicants who meet the requirements.

Temporary Residency

Applicants can qualify for Temporary Residency through several tracks:

Rentista Track Requires transferring qualifying passive income — commonly cited around five times Argentina's minimum wage per person per month — into Argentina through a Central Bank-regulated institution.

Pensionado Track Requires a stable, guaranteed pension income at a similar threshold to the Rentista track.

Investor Track Requires capital contribution to a lawful Argentine business activity, placed in a Central Bank-regulated financial institution, subject to review by Argentina's Ministry of Economy.

Important Compliance Note Recent regulatory changes have tightened absence rules for residents — both temporary and permanent residents now face stricter limits on time spent outside Argentina, and interruptions can affect eligibility for the next stage. This makes careful planning around travel especially important throughout the process.

Permanent Residency

After a qualifying period on Temporary Residency, applicants become eligible to apply for Permanent Residency.

Naturalization & The Passport

After a qualifying period of continuous legal residence — one of the shorter timelines among Latin American countries — applicants can formally apply for Argentine citizenship.

Requirements typically include:

Continuous legal residence with no extended absences during the qualifying period

Demonstrated Spanish proficiency

A clean criminal record and financial self-sufficiency
